30 metre coil of SPF-Flex tubing. Use this tube under every pop-up sprinkler. It not only protects the sprinkler from damage by acting as a shock-absorber; it also allows you to have the irrigation pipe beside the height of the sprinkler. You can connect the SPF Flexible tube to the pipe (using one of the special fittings) and then cut the other end say 30cm long and connect it into the base of the sprinkler body.

Most competent irrigation contractors will use this under EVERY pop-up sprinkler. It will save you time, trouble and digging!
