Dicamba

Dicamba is a compound used as a selective herbicide. It is a solid and varies in colour from brown to white. Products containing Dicamba are used to treat such areas as crops, lawns, sports and amenity turf and forests.

Dicamba works as a weed killer by causing unrestrained cell division and growth. It penetrates the leaves, stems and roots of unwanted plants, moving to all plant tissues but building up especially in growing tissues. It can also hinder plant growth.

After a weed has been treated with a product containing dicamba, symptoms can include swelling and stem curling followed by yellowing of the plant, wilting and death.

As a selective herbicide, dicamba kills the unwanted weeds but leaves the desired plant unharmed.

Dicamba can be used to control many weeds including:

  • Creeping buttercup
  • Cat’s ear
  • Common chickweed
  • White clover
  • Daisy
  • Dandelion
  • Hawkweed
  • Common mouse-ear
  • Plantain spp
  • Selfheal
