Chewings Fescue (Festuca Rubra Commutata)

Chewings Fescue (Festuca rubra commutata) is a very widely used species in the UK that provides fine texture and low maintenance qualities. This sub species is without rhizomes and favours well-drained chalky soils as well as sandy and gravel soils. Very aggressive on clay soils and can suppress Browntop Bent when maintained under low fertility conditions. Well adapted to seed mixtures it can be aggressive when used on dry, fertile soil. Excellent drought resistance.
