Tufted Hair Grass (Deschampsia Cespitosa)

Tufted Hair Grass (Deschampsia cespitosa) often grows to over 1.5m tall when flowering and is distinctive by its long and tufted stems. It is found in many conditions and habitats such as woodland, marshland, fen and heath areas. Tufted Hair Grass is often found in badly drained areas.

The plant is dark green and coarse and its long, thin leaves are grooved with pointed ends.

Tufted Hair Grass flowers from June to August and its silvery/purple flower heads often persist into winter.
