Cat's Ear (Hypochoeris radicata)

Cats Ear

The perennial’s leaves grow up to eight inches and are covered in fine hairs. A central taproot leads up to the rosette of leaves, where bright yellow flower heads are carried on stems up to 30cm tall. It is sometimes mistaken for the dandelion, but cat’s ear stems are solid and forked, whereas the dandelions are hollow and not forked. Its seeds germinate in the autumn and are carried on the wind.

Treatment

Regular mowing will help prevent flower heads forming and if removed by hand ensure all taproots are taken out. Use  Crossbar or  Super Selective Plus to control.
