John Holt Retirement
John Holt, who has been Commercial Director at Rigby Taylor for the last 10 years, will be retiring at the end of October after 32 years with the company.
John joined the company in 1979 as a representative working first of all in the South Yorkshire and Nottingham area, later moving back to his native Lancashire to cover the North West of England. In the early 1990s he became the sales manager.
His latest role, as commercial director, has involved responsibilities for purchasing and sales and in conjunction with other colleagues, product development. This has culminated with many new fertilizers being formulated with traditional greenkeeping in mind.
It was in greenkeeping that John started in this business, but his passion for golf was sparked earlier, at the age of eight, whilst his parents were steward and stewardess at Blackburn Golf Club. There he spent many hours watching the professional repair clubs which gave him his interest in club making.
For many years, whilst working as a greenkeeper, John was a category one golfer and represented The Bury Golf Association. This interest in all aspects of the game led him to become a member of the British Golf Collectors and The James Braid Golfing Society.
His present collection of golf artefacts includes approximately eight hundred golf clubs.
As a member of Clitheroe Golf Club since 1975 John has spent many years as Chairman of Greens and has been instrumental in club being used as a venue for regional qualifying for The Open Championship.
The development of the course has been one of his ambitions which has been done in conjunction with Jonathan Tucker and Alistair Beggs from the STRI.
We wish John a long and happy retirement.
